My weekend in Hot Springs came about less by design than by chance, but I must be living right to have been awarded this beautiul fall weekend with little to do but relax, pamper myself, and let time slow down a bit, if only for the weekend.

HOT SPRINGS, N.C. - The mountains of Western North Carolina give birth to the French Broad River. It sweeps past Hot Springs, an old railroad town, and then courses through a landscape of tobacco and cattle farms. The river bottom once held the Buncombe Turnpike, a major route for farmers moving livestock to markets in Charleston, S.C.
